Water Organizations

United Nations

On 28 July 2010, through Resolution 64/292, the United Nations General Assembly explicitly recognized the human right to water and sanitation and acknowledged that clean drinking water and sanitation are essential to the realization of all human rights. The Resolution calls upon States and international organisations to provide financial resources, help capacity-building and technology transfer to help countries, in particular developing countries, to provide safe, clean, accessible and affordable drinking water and sanitation for all.

World Health Organization

World Health Organization. Water is essential for life. The amount of fresh water on earth is limited, and its quality is under constant pressure. Preserving the quality of fresh water is important for the drinking-water supply, food production and recreational water use. Water quality can be compromised by the presence of infectious agents, toxic chemicals, and radiological hazards.

Canadian Standards Association

Canadian Standards Association (CSA) developed additional requirements, outside the existing NSF/ANSI standards, to meet plumbing, mechanical, and electrical requirements for drinking water treatment components and complete systems. Products under this scope include POU and POE plumbed systems and POU non-plumbed systems. The regulation will go into Canadian National Plumbing Code in 2010 but provinces can adopt the standard at any time.

NSF International

The NSF Water Treatment and Distribution Systems Program is responsible for the Certification of drinking water treatment chemicals and drinking water system components to ensure that these products do not contribute contaminants to drinking water that could cause adverse health effects.
